Does anyone remember not that long ago when a weekly magazine came out with the bit parts to build a DJH I believe Flying Scotsman which would take two years (?) to complete ?! At first it was all the news in the modelling press, then it seemed to have died off and I was just wondering if any one actually built one or knows of anyone that did. The other thing that intriqued me at the time was how on earth was a youngster ever going to put such a complicated kit together ( with cellotape???!!!!) AND get it to run ! - the valve gear alone would have taxed even the most experienced modellers - but not me of course cos I'd have left it off !!! Allan. |

Hi Allan, I do know that there was a thread on the other forum regarding this build. See here ; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/473-a1-partwork-flying-scotsman/ Cheers, Gary. ____________________ ...as a young lad, it was big trains for little boys, now it is little trains for big boys...! http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=12116&forum_id=21 |

Hi Allen. I have three of them in various statges of construction but that is probably as far as it will get. My eyes aren't what they were and arthritic fingers and little bits don't go well together. You have to read the instructions very carefully otherwise the wheels don't line up with the splashers. It was about a quarter of the way through the build that the instructions to alter the mainframes came out. Several other items were altered as the kit appeared which also added to the confusion. Building the coal shutes etc in the tender are a nightmare too. There is one thing though, it's big and should look impressive if I ever get round to finishing one of them at least. I'll pop a pic up soon of progress on No. 1 soon.

I don't know what this one cost when it was being published but other "partwork" publications cost a small fortune - I think Titanic was a popular one until people realised it was going to cost them several hundred pounds. ![]() ____________________ 'Petermac |

Thanks Allan. Might get down to do a bit again soon. Pressures on time, eyes and fingers permitting.
