So do I Mike, so according to Photobucket, my slideshow doesn't even exist !!! - and if you've got ten hours to waste then try their "Drop 'n' Drag " facility -  worse than bloody useless !!!!!

Oh, and never log out cos they won't let you back in with " Username and password not recognised " !!!!!

Then there's their photo edit facility which will perform wonders with your picture then return it to your album ( that'll be the album that's empty ) exactly the same as it was before you edited it !!!

The worst organized site on the Web.

Allan.

Well that's a new one Alan, expect I've got that one to come - I've had everything else including hundreds of pictures of other people's kids, cats, and dogs - and even a leopard up a tree !!!!

That was a laugh Allan.........................:lol::lol:

Like Alan (Spurno), I got "This album is private" followed by a message "Here are a few of Allan Downes' public albums" - 2 in total and nothing in either of them !!!!  :???::???::???::???:

I have to agree with you about Photobucket.  They once decided to bin all my photos because I wasn't using it enough ..............:twisted::twisted:

I just put mine on Picasaweb now, I used to use Fotopic before it died, mever liked Fickr, I hear it's even worse now, like Farcebook but with more pics.

Just don't put large images on any site, too many get nicked and next thing you know they're in magazines and you won't see a penny

I managed to get to look at 4 photographs and very good they were too. Don't ask how I did it, I just clicked on Allan Downes, down on the left side.

Hmmm, seems like it's only showing a handful of pictures so what I'm going to do is to unsubscribe from bloody Photobucket and try somewhere else - any suggestions anyone please ?

Cheers.
Allan

Anyway meanwhile, here's that original link again, but don't count on it  !

Really strange.

When I click onto it, as I have just this very minute done so, I get a 330 picture slideshow but, and as we already know, that's photobucket all over - totally without rhyme nor reason.

Thats a pity Allan,
I gave up on photo bucket and its evil offspring years ago.
Constant hassle trying to store photo,s or get links working.
I just keep stuff on my computer now and upload to sites when I need to.
Best of luck,

Derek.

Photobucket is a dam**ed nuisance but I have a lot of stuff on there so I'm loath to go elsewhere.  I expect that any free site will have many of the same problems with ads sucking up bandwidth so that navigating one's own album takes an age.  It won't work properly on IE8 (for XP) so I have to go to Firefox for that.  (Hate Firefox and Chrome too!)

That's quite possible Allan - they're your albums but marked as "Private" so the rest of us can't see them.:sad:

Photobucket will recognise your ISP so will open them up for you. :thumbs

Well guys, the album, all 330 pics of it ! came up but blurred but I suppose one shouldn't expect too much from photobucket all in one go so a 50% success rate will have to do !

But this will be the last try and apparently all the other photo storage sites are the same and I'm beginning to think that anything hosted by America, as most seemingly are, one can expect trouble and complications - like " This is a FREE site, send just xxx dollars to..."

Well Peter I tried, how I tried, but once again hit a brick wall so -

I logged out, then tried logging back in again to see if that would help - results? now they refuse to even  recognise my user name, email address and password !!!!

Which is fine by me because I'm now getting the hell out of photobucket once and for all !!

Cheers.
Allan.

PS: Does anyone know how to upload a slide show from ones personal files then upload it onto the forum ?

I can get a slide show going but I'm not sure if/how I could share it.

Yes Ed, that really is strange - then probably not according to photobucket !

That link takes you to an album - created by god knows who ! - and allows anyone to view it ,YET - when I click on I can view other albums  (also other albums that I didn't create ! ) and others can't apparently because they're marked "Private" !!!

If you want to go bald immaturely, then join photobucket !

Cheers.

You need to make the album "Public" not Private;  the whole point of marking an album private is si that only you or somebody using your computer or email address can see it.

It's not Photobucket that is the problem, when you start an album you need to make itpublic, if you don'tspecify public it defaults to private; there should be an option to change an album from private to public all  you need to do is find it, it has to be on the your page somewhere, maybe in a drop down menu for "Tools", "Settings" or "Options".

Yes.  It's a change "they" made during an "update"

You need to go through and change your albums.  I did.

That's why I only have one.

Thanks Mike.

Right, I think I've "gone public" so I've made a mini-slide show of eight pictures so let's see if you get to see all eight - if any !

Cheers.

Well that seemed to have worked - I got to see all eight pictures but the big question now is - will you ?!!

Apart from that, it takes too much time to upload just one photo onto photo bucket from my files and compiling an album of any substance would take a year and a day - and all my missing files that photobucket somehow managed to save without me even knowing that they had, have now also disappeared off photobucket too - so where are they now I wonder !!!

Therefore, with all my lost files now swanning around somewhere in cyber space, photobucket is of no use to me whatsoever (apart from creating a slide show perhaps cos I can't manage to create it from my own files ) as all I need to do is to use RMWeb's own uploading facilty - so fast that it makes your head spin ! - if I want to show off !!

But one is better than what I ended up with - sod all -  and had to start again !!!

OK Allan. I sometimes wonder if any of these so called 'hosting' sites are worth the effort. Good luck anyway in finding a solution.

You're probably right.

I'm now doing battle with "Picsaweb" and they're every bit as bad as Photobucket and somehow even they have coppies of all my lost files !!

Well I'm at my ropes end with this lot so let's see what this will or won't do - more failed promises from ANOTHER American site ?

I have heard that you really need to read the 'fine print' before posting on some of these hosting sites. On some sites, once you have uploaded pictures etc, they become the interlectual property of the host...! This way they then can use your pics etc, for their own benefits, without your knowing !

Cheers, Gary.

ps, Great pics Allan !

And this is why you got all that gobbledegook above - just follow the instructions ! - especially number 6 !!!!!

Embedding albums, images, and slideshows You can jazz up your blog or website by embedding a slideshow, album, or image. All it takes is a small snippet of HTML that you paste in the source code for your blog or website. Here's how to get it:
Slideshow You can embed a Flash slideshow of any web album. It'll be automatically updated when you make changes to your album. Follow these steps to embed a slideshow:
  1. On the My Photos page, click your album.
  2. Click Link to this album on the right-hand side.
  3. Click Embed Slideshow.
  4. Choose your slideshow settings, such as image size, captions, and autoplay.
  5. Once you've chosen your settings, copy the resulting HTML code (Ctrl-C).
  6. Paste the HTML in the source code for your site (Ctrl-V)

Seeing the problems experienced by Alan may I suggest an alternative?

For the past 7 years I have been paying approximately £17.00/annum for the possibility of having up to 1500 images stored on yet another American site.

It serves me well and it might be useful for others, all my pictures are linked back to this site?

The site is http://imageevent.com/

It has hosted my business images as a sales outlet too @  http://imageevent.com/petersplatters/petersplatterswoodturning/gallery1 (Merely an example, I am NOT spamming!)

As for Alan's images, they are varied and interesting especially the trackwork.

Regards, Peter.

Thanks Peter.

I went there but  (and as expected)  they wouldn't let me register over and over again which seems to be typical of most American hosted sites but thanks all the same.

I use one called Viewbug. It's free and pictures cannot be downloaded so they are safe. You can also enter competitions and have members feedback and awards. Initially you get a 14 day trial on Premium which gives you unlimited uploads which unless you then start paying $6.99 a month it goes down to 10 pics a week upload. Worth checking out. Check out my gallery below and make up your own mind.

My late Mrs was from there.  I took her ashes back in 2001, and got to have a look around.

Sparky lives nearby.  I ask him to look in on the grave from time to time, poor lad.

A program called PicturesToExe is used by professional photographers and camera clubs to create stunning slideshows on their own computer, before uploading them to forums or YouTube. There's a free demo, the standard version costs about £45 from:

Here's a sample slideshow:

I think I've seen that "Picturestoexe" presentation before ..................:roll:

It certainly seems a powerful tool and, at £45, not over priced.

I wonder how difficult it is to master ...............:hmm:hmm

I went there but  (and as expected)  they wouldn't let me register over and over again which seems to be typical of most American hosted sites but thanks all the same.

Allan.

Allan, I'm unsure of what you mean?

I used my browser without login and my site worked perfectly, what suspect happened is that I gave the link whilst I was logged on so therefore it was trying to recognise you!

Either way it could be what others need for storage.

Warmest regards, Peter.
